Wesleyan favors highly engaged creative students, especially those with demonstrated work in arts, music, film, theater, writing, or socially engaged activism. They value intellectual curiosity across disciplines, comfort with experimental or interdisciplinary projects, and applicants who will contribute to a politically progressive, collaborative campus culture. Compared with peer liberal arts colleges they are more forgiving of lower standardized scores if an applicant shows a standout creative portfolio, sustained community arts leadership, or research that aligns with Wesleyan’s concentration system.
For the supplement, be specific about programs and people: cite Wesleyan’s College of Film + Media, the Allbritton Center, the Praxis program, or particular faculty, student organizations, and performance spaces you plan to use or join, and explain one concrete project you would pursue on campus. If you submit a creative sample, make it central to your narrative rather than ornamental, and tie portfolio pieces to curricular opportunities or interdisciplinary collaborations available at Wesleyan.
