ED rate (30.0%) is materially higher than RD (7.0%). If Tufts is your top choice and you can commit financially, this is the highest-leverage round.
Tufts favors intellectually curious, civically engaged students who pair strong academics with concrete extracurricular impact, especially in international relations, public service, and biomedical research. They value initiative and depth over breadth - applicants who started sustained projects, held leadership in community service, or pursued research with measurable outcomes stand out. Compared with Ivy peers, Tufts is slightly more holistic about nontraditional trajectories and interdisciplinary interests, but remains selective on rigor of coursework and demonstrated academic fit.
Treat the Tufts supplemental as a specificity test: cite exact programs, faculty, centers, or experiences that map to your interests, for example the Fletcher School joint initiatives, the Tufts Institute of the Environment, Tufts Biomedical Institute, or Tisch College civic programs. Show how a named course, professor, lab, or student organization will advance a current project or research plan, and explain why Medford/Boston resources and Tufts’ collaborative culture are required for your next steps.
