Medical and moral character standards are also decisive factors, so disciplinary issues, unresolved conduct, or unclear nomination/compliance readiness weaken otherwise-competitive candidates.
Use essays and the candidate statement to narrate specific leadership instances with outcomes tied to service or teamwork, and explain why a naval commission, not just an engineering degree, is your goal; reference concrete USNA offerings such as the Brigade of Midshipmen structure, the Naval Academy's aboard training (summer cruises), the Naval Academy Preparatory School option if relevant, or specific engineering labs and majors.
